The Merc Co+op is much more than a grocery store. Sure, you can pick up all the groceries you need for the week. We can be your bakery, butcher, deli and supermarket. But shopping at The Merc Co+op gives you so much more.

Staff at the co-op know good food like no one else. We know the local farmers and ranchers (and shoppers!) on a first name basis. We make sure the foods you find on the shelves at The Merc Co+op meet high standards and also allow you to stick to your budget. Every week there are new great deals on organic produce, local foods, and your familiar favorites. So you can have that organic milk with our freshly baked cake, and eat it, too.

Everyone is welcome to shop at The Merc Co+op and we’d love to show you around. Read more below about our different department.

Fresh produce is the first thing you’ll see at The Merc Co+op. Our coolers and shelves are overflowing with organic vegetables and fruits, locally grown varieties, and high quality seasonal produce. As you shop, you can learn about the farmers who grew your organic carrots and kale, taste the newest crop of berries and get inspired to cook with seasonal ingredients.

Our produce department follows strict certified organic standards and, dictated by season, carries 60-80% certified organic produce. We purchase produce from over 30 local farms, both certified organic and conventional, many of which practice organic farming methods even though non-certified. In order to maintain a wide selection of high quality, competitively priced produce, we also offer a limited amount of national conventional produce. All produce is quality-checked by our trained staff prior to stocking it on our shelves.

Meat & Seafood

At The Merc Co+op, you’ll never have to wonder about the quality of your meat and seafood. Our butchers believe great quality meats start with sustainable farms and compassionate and humane treatment of animals. All of the meats in our market are free of antibiotics and added hormones. You’ll find locally raised Kansas beef and pork, free range chicken, and wild-caught sustainable seafood like sockeye salmon and sushi grade ahi tuna. If you don’t see what you want, just ask. We make signature items like our Merc Made sausage right here in our butcher shop and will do custom cuts and special orders anytime.

Deli & Cafe

With over 70 unique items available every day, our deli is a great place to figure out “what’s for dinner?” All items in our deli are made from scratch in the kitchen at 901 Iowa, using the same local ingredients and organic produce in our grocery store. Each morning, you can find a hot breakfast, fresh baked pastries and Merc Made coffees and juices. Each day, you can explore our soup, salad and hot bar, mix and match to make it your own. Or, customize a sandwich at our made-to-order sandwich counter. Open until 8:30 p.m. each evening, we're also a great source for dinner. From whole roasted chickens to take-and-bake pasta and enchiladas to prepared sides, we have something for every appetite every night of the week!
