Please join the Historic Northeast Midtown Association and The Merc Co+op for a free film screening of Food For Change at the KCK Public Library at 625 Minnesota.
This documentary film focuses on food co-ops as a force for dynamic social and economic change in American culture. Food for Change tells the little-known story of the cooperative movement in the United States from the Great Depression to the present. The film examines the key role played by co-ops during the decades-long debate between monopoly capitalism and locally-controlled businesses. Today, food co-ops across the country are experiencing a resurgence in response to the widening wealth disparity and the consolidation of the food industry. Filmmaker Steve Alves describes his documentary as “one part food, to two parts politics, to three parts economics.”
This event is free and everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be served, followed by an opportunity to get to know more about food cooperatives.
