KCK Location to Close December 30, 2025

On June 30, we notified the Unified Government of Kansas City, Kansas of our intent to terminate our operating agreement at 501 Minnesota Avenue. Our Kansas City, Kansas location will close December 30, 2025. This decision is based on what’s best for the long-term viability of the co-op and the location’s financial performance. We have loved being a part of this community for the last half decade and thank those that have supported our co-op and shopped with us.

Our focus as a cooperative business is the same today as it was when we opened: we are here for our people, and our focus is on supporting our staff, our local partners and our community. Currently, 12 staff are employed at The Merc’s Kansas City, Kansas location. We’re committed to exploring every opportunity to transition these dedicated employees to roles on our Lawrence team or to prepare them for placement elsewhere when the time comes. We are finalizing details to help all affected employees and will work with them on a plan for support and transition.

We will make every effort to provide the high level of service for which we’re known through our final day of business and will share more with our owners and shoppers as we’re able. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our KCK community.

This operating agreement termination applies to the Kansas City, Kansas location ONLY and does not impact the Lawrence location.
