Your co-op is constantly focused on improving the shopping and dining experience. To that end, we will be updating our deli and back of house production areas.

Phase One of this refresh will begin Sunday, July 7. During this week, our kitchen, bakery and meat & seafood area will receive new walls, floors, fixtures and equipment. In addition, our deli service counter and sandwich station will be updated with new countertops and equipment. In the cafe, we will install a new reverse osmosis water station.

As the co-op prepares to open a new store in Kansas City, Kansas, your board of directors recognized the immediate need to seek representation from within the KCK community. To that end, we voted at our April meeting to increase the amount of board seats from seven to nine, and to begin recruiting two new members to fill those seats. Today, we are excited to introduce you to our two new board members, Victor Aguilar and Rachel Jefferson..

On Saturday, June 8 Nancy O’Connor, The Merc Co+op’s Education & Outreach Director, was awarded the Cooperative Innovation and Achievement Award at the Consumer Cooperative Management Association’s annual conference.

Our work as grocers is constantly changing, so the methods and mediums we use to communicate must be agile.  To that end, this will be the last printed issue of Connections.

The Merc Co+op has signed a non-binding letter of intent with The Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas (UG) to open a grocery store at the corner of 5th and Minnesota in downtown KCK. They are now in the process of negotiating a management agreement. 

Sarah James Saunders’ journey to becoming a local producer and small business owner is multi-faceted. Her passion for natural living and inclusion coupled with her strong work ethic, have led her to create a new line of hair and skin care products called Black’S oil.
