About the Producer
Wamda’s journey to creating Two Niles Co. had an unexpected beginning.
“I was supposed to go to law school, I was working in a law office, and it was miserable. I was miserable. I had no idea eventually I’d be in business working with herbs. But when you’re given a gift, everything else aligns.”
Growing up in Sudan, it was the women and community there that were her first mentors.
“[Working with plants] is not something they taught me, exactly, it’s something you grow up with. I learned that there’s still healing in plants.”
When she moved to the US, she brought that knowledge with her. Wamda would make and share herbal supplements with her community to support their health. It did not take long for interest in those products to grow as they noticed results. Their testimonies inspired her to create more products and grow her business, and she launched Two Niles in 2018. With the support of her family, mentors and serendipitous partnerships, they outgrew their facility and expanded to their current space in 2021.
Wamda’s Sudanese lineage is the inspiration for her brand and products, and Two Niles is named for Sudan’s Tuti Island, where the White and the Blue Niles meet. Today they distribute their products around the globe, but Wamda’s priority is local.
“Two Niles is community-focused, even more when the community comes my way. I’m returning the gratitude of where we are now, especially here in Kansas City. For me, I’m not thinking about making it, I’m thinking about helping people with their health or with their finances. You feel better when you give.”
About the Products
Wamda’s vision is to create clean, herbal health and beauty products that honor her ancestry’s wisdom, with a modern twist. She sources organic and local ingredients when possible, and returns to Sudan to source some specific herbs for her formulations. Her products are sulfate-, paraben- and phthalate-free, and certified vegan and cruelty-free.
“Next, I want to go full throttle with herbal teas, conveying the message of herbs and what they do. I’m also interested in hair formulas, infused with herbs. I’ll be going home to collect herbs and research. I’m always infusing east and west.”
